Meeting of Gawdas held to discuss about the survey
A meeting of members of different Associations of Gawda Community from Margao,
Quepem, Ponda , Marmagoa held Margao on 2nd October to discuss over the
issue of recent survey conducted by the Other Backward Commission and which is
presently under display.
At the meeting speakers after speaker have pointed out there are glaring
errors and omission in including the household of Gawda Community
particularly of those Gawdas who are following Christian faith. Some of the
members also raise a doubt that error and omission are being done purposely to
cause harassment to the Gawda Community particularly to the Gawda following
Christian faith.
Remedio Rebello of Quepem an Ex-OBC commission member putting forth a case from
Quepem pointed out so many wards of Quepem Municipal Council like Copelabhat,
Betiabhat, Novewado, Bindimol, Igramol etc which are dominated by Gawdas are
not figuring in the new survey. He further pointed out that in the 2003 survey
conducted by the OBC commission the total house of Schedule Tribe household of
QMC are shown as 741 however in the new survey they are shown as 185, where
are the 546 household are gone, he questioned.

thousand of ST households in Fatorda constituency however in the recent survey
around 85 household from Fatorda constituency are shown as ST.

government don’t want the survey to be conducted properly and settle the issue
one for all . But the government want to keep the issue of ST population of Goa
on hanging so as to deny the “Mull Goankar” their constitutional right.
At the end of the meeting it was unanimously resolved to submit a memorandum
to the government highlighting the errors and omission in survey issue. It
was also resolved that as the survey was conducted without following proper
procedure a fresh survey be conducted thereby including all the wards which are
