The "beauty" about Congress politicians is that, unlike the BJP for
instance, they can play on the religiosity of diverse groups! They can
also indulge in multiple communalism, while attempting to harvest
votes and support from all sides.

I think politicians holding public office in a secular state -- where
religion is a private affair -- need to be careful about the metaphors
they use. This is why there was an outcry (and rightly in my view)
when the Congress allegedly dished out the "Nagaland for Christ"
slogan.

Digambar Kamat's "Ram rajya" talk is opportunistic at best. He ought
to know better about the recent manner in which the BJP hard-core has
been using this term; their Ram Rajya and its connotations in the 21st
century certainly isn't the more humane version of Gandhi's in the
20th century. FN
