Planning to get married in Goa? www.weddingsetcgoa.com Making your 'dream wedding' possible ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Oct 2009 08:10:26 +0400 From: Arwin Mesquita <[email protected]> Its New Delhi who was the Final Authority by imposing a constitution which Goans where not party to Mario responds: The last time I checked "New Delhi" is where the national government of India is located, and Goa is just another state within the Indian union. Each state constitution has to conform to, and is superseded by, the Constitution of India. Arwin wrote: Mario only once a year??.. I am in Goa min 6 times a year. !!! Why did you bring in being a catholic here.. Its about being Goan overall !! Mario responds: If you are in Goa 6 times a year how is it that you haven't noticed that there is no one unique Goan identity in Goa? I mentioned Catholic because it seems to be only Goan Catholics who are obsessed by this fantasy called one unique "Goan identity". Only Goan Catholics who pine and whine for the good old days of the Portuguese occupiers, or who demand that there should have been a referendum in Goa, well after that case has been closed. Why can't you see that Goa has been turned over to Goans since 1987 and most of the corruption and inappropriate development has taken place since then? Arwin wrote: Yes then if you think my views are irrelevant; then yours are as well Mario responds: The difference is that my views conform to reality whereas yours are part of some fantasy that does not exist. Arwin wrote: Maybe Goa is not going anyway, I was refering to Goa going away from Goans. BTW so your original point to me to be thankful for Goa being political entitity will not be relevant right; if Goa becomes more like Maharashtra or Karnataka? Mario responds: I did not say that Goa will become Maharashtra or Karnataka - I said if Goa becomes "LIKE" Maharashtra or Karnataka there is nothing you can do about it. There is a chance it may become "LIKE" Kerala as well. Whatever it becomes "LIKE" it will still be Goa. Arwin wrote: Yes Mario Migrate to the US and declare that the case is closed. Who are the Goans that India Gave back Goa to Mario; if you think Goan Identity is Mythical? i.e. if Goan Identity as you claim is Mythical than from your sentence above how do you define a GOAN? Mario responds: The case as to Goa's political situation as an Indian state has been closed long ago. Goa was given back to the residents of Goa who can legally vote there. I define an ethnic Goan as someone whose ancestors were from Goa. In future there will be Goans by domicile and migration whose ancestors were from elsewhere. This is not unusual in a multi-ethnic country like India. There are ethnic Goans who are legal residents in practically every state in India. I did not say there was "no" Goan identity - in fact there are several, not just one unique Goan identity as you seem to imply. Goan Catholics may have several different Goan identities. The same applies to the Hindus and Muslims. Now you have Goans with non-Goan identities. Identity is often in the eye of the beholder. Arwin wrote: Maybe you also can try to convince them Mario responds: As the lone voice on Goanet of reason, truth and peace I am constantly urging Goans to elect honest politicians, or nothing will change. Arwin wrote: Yes you got a point, but then if Goans decide to turn their back on Goa, permanently migrate and do nothing for Goa; then they should stop criticising Goans who are still citizens of India and want to preserve one of India's unique identity. BTW good you know that I working in the Gulf and not "permanently migrated to anywhere" Mario responds: You should add "Inshallah" when you say that. I know plenty of Indians who return to India in caskets from all over the world. Many of us contribute to Goa's economy in various ways, some more than others. Those of us who cannot vote in Goa are at the mercy of those who can. Arwwin wrote: Why dont you start doing something about it? [Corruption in India] Mario responds: If I was motivated to be a martyr in India and thought I could change it's endemic corruption I would not be an American. All I can do at the moment is to write about it as the lone voice on Goanet of reason, truth and peace. I leave the political activism to people like Floriano and others who live in Goa.
