Changes soon in law to make emigration easier
TNN 10 October 2009, 07:47am IST

PANAJI: The Centre will effect drastic changes to the Emigration Act, 1983 to
make
it hassle-free for emigrants, to ensure accountability by

recruiting agents and to bring in changes so that emigrants have access to
better
relief in the countries of their destination.

This was stated by the ministry of overseas Indian affairs (MOIA) secretary K
Mohandas at Dona Paula on Friday while speaking at a conference organized by
the NRI
Cell, government of Goa, on migration trends and the Goa migration study 2008.

Mohandas said that the Indian government has already held talks with various
governments in the Gulf and the European Union and had even signed agreements
with
almost all the Gulf countries except Saudi Arabia.

Mohandas also spoke fondly of the Global Ink programme initiated by the
Overseas
Indian Facilitation Centre (OIFC). Global Ink is a platform for harnessing the
knowledge and skills of the Indian diaspora for the benefit of India.

Stating that Global Ink will be functional by the year-end, Mohandas said it
will
facilitate the movement of knowledge without the physical movement of the
diaspora
to India.
