Planning to get married in Goa? www.weddingsetcgoa.com Making your 'dream wedding' possible ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM, OCT 12 :Tension gripped Mayem-Vaiginim panchayat after about 250 villagers, including workers of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), tried to disrupt the discussion on no-confidence motion against the sarpanch, even as police was called to bring the situation under control. According to reports, tension occurred on Monday at about 9.30 am, when villagers and workers of Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme entered Mayem panchayat hall, while a discussion on no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Tulshidas Chodankar was to be held. The workers demanded that their salary be paid before the discussion could take place. It may be recalled that after the no-confidence motion was moved in September, the opposition panchas had urged the BDO to stop salaries of all the workers till the new sarpanch was elected. Enraged with this, workers and villagers marched to the panchayat on Monday and demanded to stop the discussion on no-confidence motion. In the morning, when six panchas Santosh Bhosle, Suhasini Kinalkar, Diksha Patre, Nilkhanth Nagvekar, Krishna Chodankar and Anita Naik tried to enter the panchayat, the agitated mob stopped them from entering. However, even after entering the panchayat, the mob demanded that their salary be paid before any discussion could start. The workers abused the panchas with filthy language and tried to assault the panchas. The agitated mob demanded to know why their salaries were stopped. Amid tension, police was summoned who tried to pacify the mob. Bicholim Mamlatdar Pramod Bhat and Deputy Collector D H Kenawdekar also rushed to the site. Since the residents and members were not willing to listen, the police were forced to drive them out of the hall. Later, the discussion on no-confidence motion was passed by 6-0 votes. After the discussion, the irate residents, who were outside the hall, stopped the panchas from coming out of the hall, which again sparked tension in the area. Later, all the panchas were escorted in a car with the help of police protection. Later, the opposition panchas filed a police complaint with Bicholim police against some workers for assaulting them.
