I agree with the notion that History depends on who's writing it, but History
can also be re written and in this context, we Goans have to ponder on our
failings of the past and draw on our rich history borrowing what was good from
the past discarding the bad (garbage) and reshaping the future as we would
wish it to be. Frederick Noronha and Cheryl and others only portray negativity
of the system. They do not offer any concrete solutions to fixing what is
wrong. It is true that Goa has been in the hands of goans since 1963 and we
accept that we have not utilized our posession of the state to further our
ambitions as a people and therefore corruption and other ills have been left to
fester to such an extent that the patient (Goa) is now left on her deathbed and
only a miracle will revive her. It is sad that it has come to this stage, but
at least it is still not a gone case. The slate must be wiped clean. This can
be achieved by firstly electing honest and trustworthy people. This is the
first stage in a revolution that must take place in order for any worthwhile
change to occur. If we leave the status quo to continue, then we should not be
complacent. Seeing things change begin with small steps, they may seem
simplistic, but non the less progress will begin. It is said that any journey
begins with the first step and this should be our first step. We cannot
guarantee that people wiill stay honest, but without trying, we will not know
what can happen. ONE leader in Liberia, West Africa (Presidet Ellen Johnson
Sirleaf) has made a difference in that country's development following many
years of civil strife. Why cannot we see what can happen before we reach the
point of no return. We have seen what corruption has done so far and our
manifesto should be based on honesty, truth and justice. We should if possible
form a new party to oppose these corrupt leaders and make it a point to expose
the corrupt dealings of the previous governments and individuals who have
pofitted from this cancer called corruption. But the first step must be taken
before anything can happen. We should not forget that the ballot box is a very
powerful weapon and we should use it to its fullest extent to SAVE GOA.
