again of the words of the Rev Martin Niemoller about the inactivity of
German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of
their chosen targets, group after group.
First they came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.
First it was the muslims, then the christians, now ordinary secular minded
hindus (Margao blasts). This is the ideology of the hindutva forces being
carried out to its logical conclusions. Yet there are still many amongst us
who cannot see the wood for the trees.
