Migrant is normally a person who moves from one place or location to another
in the same country. John d'Souza from Goa who lives and works in Mumbai is a migrant. Kalapa from Davangere working in Goa is also a migrant. Emigrant is a person who leaves his country to settle in another country. Tony Fernandes from Goa on leavin g his motherland becomes an emigrant in the eyes of the Goa Government. The same Tony Fernandes on settling down in Canada becomes in the eyes of the Canadian Govt. , an immigrant. In other words an immigrant is a newcomer who enters a country to become a permanent citizen.
