Residents of Fathepura-Nuvem on Sunday vowed to continue their ongoing battle against the mega housing project in their locality till the project is finally scrapped. A meeting held at Fathepura this evening evoked support from various NGOs and other organisations, besides Priests Fr Eremito Rebello and Fr Bismark to the cause of the local residents. Local activist, Joanna Ferrao said the people have come together to fight for the scrapping of the project, but lamented that certain vested interests are spreading lies and falsehood that she has accepted money and land from the builder. She said attempt is being made to tarnish her image by spreading falsehood in a bid to demoralise the people, but expressed her firm resolve to continue to oppose the project come what may. Ferrao lamented that the false cases are being slapped on innocent local youth by the police and warned that the people will not be cowed down by threats and false cases. Fr Eremito Rebello said the people of Goa have now come on the streets to protect their State from further destruction and urged the government to open its eyes and ears to the cries of the common man. Saying that the people who are fighting against the mega housing project are original Goans.
