HERALD REPORTER
MARAGO, NOV 2

Residents of Fathepura-Nuvem on Sunday vowed to continue their ongoing battle
against the mega housing project in their locality till the project is finally
scrapped.

A meeting held at Fathepura this evening evoked support from various NGOs and
other
organisations, besides Priests Fr Eremito Rebello and Fr Bismark to the cause
of the
local residents.

Local activist, Joanna Ferrao said the people have come together to fight for
the
scrapping of the project, but lamented that certain vested interests are
spreading
lies and falsehood that she has accepted money and land from the builder.

She said attempt is being made to tarnish her image by spreading falsehood in a
bid
to demoralise the people, but expressed her firm resolve to continue to oppose
the
project come what may.

Ferrao lamented that the false cases are being slapped on innocent local youth
by
the police and warned that the people will not be cowed down by threats and
false
cases.

Fr Eremito Rebello said the people of Goa have now come on the streets to
protect
their State from further destruction and urged the government to open its eyes
and
ears to the cries of the common man.

Saying that the people who are fighting against the mega housing project are
original Goans.

Fr Rebello demanded to know what successive governments have done to protect
the
rights of the original Goans.
