This an interesting article in memory to the few such public squares in Asia. I
remember Guna the barber and his newspapers. The senior librarian carefully
sidesteps the forced removal of the bust of Vasco da Gama by the current
colonial ruler of our land besides, he lacks the guts to tell the reader who
built the square and has the audacity to tell us 'it happened after
liberation'. The ghanti rule can hardly maintain the garden. Now the vereador
comes and tells us he is remaking things for the Catholic feast. Typical
collies roti and chutney stuff.

A garden, a bandstand & memories

Of all the structures in Panaji that have been undergoing renovation of late, I
nostalgically remember Jardim Municipal Garcia de Orta, where as a child and
later,
I have spent happy moments. For a city and an era where limited recreational
activity was available, it was this municipal garden which was the center of
activity and leisure for all citizens.
