-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM NOV 14: Tardy government employees sauntering in to work at the electricity department in Bicholim got a shock of their lives after they were caught red-handed by power minister Aleixo Sequeira on Friday morning.
Sequeira, accompanied by OSD N D Agarwal, arrived at the office at 9.35am and found that only nine out of 68 employees had turned up for work. While sources said that the minister undertook such an action after receiving a complaint about the office, Sequeira saw for himself that government employees were turning up to work almost half-an-hour late, but signing their registers with the check-in time as 9.30am. "Soon, we will be installing bio-metric attendance registers at the electricity department offices at Panjim and Margao," Sequeira told mediapersons later. The tardy employees also had half-a-day's casual leave deducted by Agarwal - under a clause in the administrative instruction rule book of the government.(ToI)
