In their first media conference after the controversy, Yogi’s Angels director Gautam Gondal alias Yogi, said “yes the policemen did dance at the end but they were off duty.” “The policemen on duty did not join us for the show,” he said adding the show was for motivating them. “If the police force of India is upholding the law and protecting the citizens, then they deserve to be motivated and this entertainment program was our way of acknowledging their valuable contribution to the society,” Yogi said. He also clarified that there is a wrong perception that it was a belly dance. “The show consisted of a very high quality gymnastic and acrobatic performance, along with hi–tech laser lights and laser costumes imported from Europe…,” he said adding “…it did not in any way feature a single scantily dressed performer.” In fact, he continued, for most performances the artists wore complete body suits. “Everything was done very tastefully and the entertainment program finished by sharp 9.30 pm,” he said. He said that the dance was in no way vulgar. Further he said “Yogi’s Angels are regularly doing pro-bono shows for social organisation and charitable causes, not only in India, but sometimes also in Europe,” he said. “So when the IGP K D Singh mentioned that new Anjuna police station is being inaugurated I offered to do a gratis inauguration function for the police force,” Yogi explained. Yogi also said that this kind of entertainment package costs Rs 3 lakh. “However, since it was for a social cause, the program was done pro-bono and not a single rupee was charged,” he said.
