President Mrs. Pratibha Patil spent four days in Goa. Her visit has cost the tax payer lakhs of rupees. She might have left with a D. Litt degree of the Goa University and other souvenirs but has her trip benefited Goa’s Aam Aadmi?
She could have visited the recently flood ravaged Canacona, seen for herself the catastrophic damage that the nine-year grounded River Princess is doing to Goa’s coastline or she could have even visited one of the many villages that is bearing the brunt of illegal mining. There is no denying that the current President is uninspiring and lacklustre. That very few Ministers and MLAs attended the State-hosted civic reception in honour of President Patil says it all. The time has come to ponder whether our country can afford such grandiose wasteful expenditure on our constitutional heads. It is imperative that those holding high positions need to feel the pulse of the common man and be able to communicate to the grass roots of society. You can be a people’s President only if you are able to reach out and connect to the common man. Aires Rodrigues T1 - B30, Ribandar Retreat Ribandar - Goa - 403006 Mobile: 9822684372
