Please check the English version at http://bit.ly/6b24jo which may help to understand what has changed in the Portuguese law since the Seabra Code modified in 1966 by what is known as Varela code. The adaptation in 1966 was worked out under the direction of a Minister of Justice of the Salazar regime, João de Matos Antunes Varela (1919-2005) who considered himself a true republican. Following his PhD in law at Coimbra University he had been professor of law at various Portuguese universities, and also of Bahia in Brasil and in Macau. These inputs may help the GRNetters to view critically and cease being mytically enchanted by the facets of colonial law prevailing in Goa!
