*Soft on everything!
Esmeraldo Luis, Carmona*
Our beloved Chief Minister Digambar Kamat is not soft only on terror (‘Call
for action’, Herald, 29 November). Rather, he is soft on everything. He is
soft on the rapidly rising prices of essential food items like sugar, rice,
onions, tomatoes and other vegetables. He is extremely soft on mega
projects; just see what is going on right now on the Dabolim plateau, where
builders are indiscriminately cutting hills and forests. He doesn’t seem
particularly bothered about what is happening to Goa and to Goans, provided
he is safe with his chair as Chief Minister.
But wherever he may be and wherever he may go, he shouts at the very top of
his loud voice about how much the so-called ‘aam admi’ means to him. He
claims that his government is of the common man. But he does not even worry
about whether the common man is alive, dying or dead, provided he, his
family and his prestigious chair are safe.
His government has no control whatsoever over what is happening in Goa and
to Goans. They are all suffering, but it does not seem to make a big
difference to him. In view of this, if he is not in a position to rule Goa
and take care of Goans, he should resign and hand over the reins to someone
who will take care of Goa and Goans.
