Frederick Noronha: the Morjim issue was hyped up, among others, by a publication linked to the real-estate lobby who themselves had a stake in some huge projects in Goa (Rahejas).
Response: Just some factual corrections. Though Outlook magazine which carried the report on the Russians of Morjim belongs to Rajan Raheja, he has no interests in the SEZ which is being undertaken by a relative of his. As you may be aware, the Rahejas split some years ago and each branch is now independent and carrying on its own activities. While most of the family have stuck to real estate and construction as their core business, Rajan Raheja who is an NRI and based in Switzerland has branched off into other businesses.* *Rajan Raheja Group has interests in cement, ceramic tiles, publishing, cable television, retailing, automobile batteries, readymix concrete, software, petrochem, hotels, asset management and real estate, of which real estate now constitutes a small portion of his total business.
