MARGAO, DEC 12 Mobile mortuaries became a reality in Salcete with the Mickky
Pacheco Charitable Trust on Saturday commissioning the mortuaries coinciding
with the birthday of Tourism Minister, Mickky Pacheco. The Trust has placed
orders for as many as five mobile mortuaries, of which two were inaugurated
today at Betalbatim. Speaking to newsmen, Pacheco said the Trust thought of
purchasing five mobile mortuaries in view of the perennial space shortage at
the Hospicio mortuary. He said the mortuaries will be made available to the
people in need free of cost and would help to preserve bodies in one's homes
even for 7-8 days. "Everyday, we find space shortage in the Hospicio
mortuary, putting the people of South Goa to great hardships. Especially,
the people of Salcete used to face the difficulties in situations when the
relatives are working abroad", Pacheco said. Saying that the mobile
mortuaries will help preserving bodies for 7-8 days, he said these
mortuaries can be installed right in one's homes free of cost. Refusing to
go into the cost involved in purchasing the mortuaries, Pacheco said "I am
not bothered about the cost. This is my service to the people". UGDP
leader, Adv Radharao Gracias complimented Pacheco for the noble cause at a
time when the Hospicio mortuary is stinking. He said the government should
take a cue from Pacheco and make available mortuaries everywhere in the
state. "The mobile mortuaries will help those whose relatives are abroad.
The can take the mortuaries and preserve the bodies right at home", he said,
while asking the government to make these mobile mortuaries everywhere.
