Maybe I was totally out of touch with Goa. What exactly is the meaning of Pai Tiatrist? It cannot be translated as "Father of Tiatrists". If this was the case, a better term would be "Tiatristancho Pai".

I had NEVER heard of this term when I grew up in Goa and had never heard of the man they refer to as "Pai".

But this post answered one of my nagging questions - I had no idea why they named that "ugly" looking structure at Old Market, Margao as Pai Auditorium. All along, I thought it was named after some Hindu family, with "Pai" as their last name.

Interestingly, "Pai" is a Portuguese word for "Father" and is somehow used to honor Konkanni tiarists.

Am I missing something here:)        ?
