Best regards, Dr. U. G. Barad OR read the message provided here under: The government on Thursday said that posh Sainik Farms in south Delhi was an unauthorized colony and built in violation of building norms. Replying to supplementary during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Roy said as per a survey by Municipal Corporation of Delhi, 1650 addresses/buildings were found in the Sainik Farms area. "Sainik Farms is an entirely unauthorized colony, built in violation of building norms," he said, but refused to say what action the Government proposes to take. When members asked if Sainik Farms would face the same action as an illegal slum that is demolished, the minister said Sainik Farms was not among the list of 1,218 illegal colonies in Delhi that have been provisionally regularized. Sainik Farms came up in 1960 as a cooperative society for defense personnel and their dependents but soon attracted non-defense personnel. Since it is an illegal colony, no water and sewage is provided, he said adding no demolition can take place because of a law which is proposed to be extended till December 31, 2010. "The government has issued Revised Guidelines 2007 for regularization of unauthorized colonies in Delhi and the guidelines do not relate to unauthorized colonies inhabited by affluent sections including Sainik Farms," he added
