Newspapers articles etc: All that you see or read does not
necessarily mean ALL coming from the author alone.

Remember, letters/articles are subject to edit for size, readability, correct
language etc.

Which means when an original article is reduced say by 50% for size
and readability etc they will have to make use of their language too
so as fit in it’s new size etc.
Often, they may even add from their own knowledge or other source.
When it is done, in most cases, it may make the article more
readable but sometimes it may go wrong too.

One thing is true - The edited article that is finally published
and whether it was good or bad ALL CREDIT or DEBIT goes to the
AUTHOR alone.

Another thing I have noted, if the article was good, there may be a
few (often none) who come back to say so but should there be any
wrong info or a photo for that matter, your inbox may be flooded
with complaints or protest (if they know your ID or phone No).

Let me explain this with most recent examples (this week).

Some of you may not be aware (particularly on Goanet as I as on one
month break) that I was reporting with pics and video clips on
the ongoing Mando Festival (9/10 Dec).
While send it to the my yahoo group, I also copy to one or two
newspapers so that they can use my pics etc just incase their photographers
could make it to the function/event.

One of my articles (on Mando) was published on 14th Dec but it
had wrong photo or a photo wrongly labeled as winning group photo

I have not even read the morning newspaper, I have first found out
from the 3 mails I received in my inbox who I don’t even know.
Which also means, they knew me on the net (but never wrote to me)
from where they got my email ID.
Thank God! None of them was rude.

Verdict: It was not my fault, they had to pick one from many
supplied and in the process it may have gone wrong somewhere.
Also, the two almost identical participating groups names,
one being ‘Curtorechim Sallkam’ and the other ‘Sallkam Curtorechim’.

Next, the most recent one i.e. yesterday (17.12.09)

While briefly giving a line or two on each of the TAG's awardees,
it was said Antonette Mendes’ duet ‘PITTI PITTI MOG’
along side late Romeo Mendes is still remembered by tiatr-lovers.

Where as, foll is the extract form my original article
Antonette Mendes (1944)
(of 1963 Amchem Noxib, Nirmonn, sukachem Sopon fame)
‘Pitti, Pitti Mog’ is very popular song.
w/o late Romeo Mendes

Strangely, no email received yet on this one.

But many will say JoeGoaUk does not know what he is talking about.
(Naturally, I too would have said same thing to anyone)

In no way I am trying to complain about the newspapers, as no one
does it deliberately but the only two intensions of writing this
 (1) is said in the subject line itself and
 (2) about the readers who usually ‘shouts’ when something goes
wrong and remain ‘silent’ otherwise.

While on this subject, let me also tell you this about me.
During the recent tiatr Competition (OCT 2009), in one of the video
clips I showed on screen ‘X & Y singing duet’ but the singer wrote
to me (first time) only to say it was not the ‘duet’ they sang but ‘duo’.
And that was the first time I come to know the difference between the two.
See, anyone can make mistake

In an another published article, I said
'.. Goans acquiring Portuguese Passports - a ticket to abroad'
The same was changed to ' - a ticket to Swindon'
(I would not have said that though)
