A long-time Goanetters told me that his wife could not get a visa to Goa as she was "Karachi-born" despite trying a lot. Is this the case with others too? If so, is fair that pre-Partition economic migrants to what became Karachi should be caught up in the post-1947 bitterness, in what was a communal battle in which they had no interests? Wonder if other Goanetters have had such experiences. FN
PS: I also know of a Germany-based Goan who has had a tough time getting visas, and was told that he was on some post-1961 "black list". What is the role the bitterness over colonialism should play, given the post-1975 restoration of links between India and Portugal? Further, in this case, the person denied being involved in any campaigns on either side of the Indo-Portuguese divide, so being on the "black list" should not arise. -- Frederick Noronha :: Columnist :: journalism :: editing :: alt.publishing :: photography :: blogging
