                        Happy New Year Twenty-Ten

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most people in Goa are satisfied with their lot.

"Why worry? Be happy" has always been the prevailing attitude aka "sosegado", a
term derogatorily used by non-Goans against the Goan essence.

So I am afraid that, unless pushed to the wall, the Goan will never be really
dis-satisfied with what is going on in Goa. "Why shake the boat?" is what one
acquaintance once told me years ago. As Samir rightly pointed out, many
dis-satisfied Goans have no "escape" routes, so have to make do with what they
have.

Besides, of those unable to bear the goings-on, who could afford to, have
escaped to other parts of India or even other countries via opportunities
available to them. You could say they "voted with their feet".  Unfortunately
for Goa, once the sons & daughters left the soil, others from other places in
India have come to take their place and now call themselves Goans; and rightly
so, in a manner I call myself Australian, Carmen would call herself British
(even if she cooks the best sorpotel in North London) and Mario calls himself
American.

Gabriel.
