"No going back on group of 7" HERALD REPORTER
Though Chief Minister Digambar Kamat tried to assuage the feelings of some of his ministerial colleagues, there seems to be no relenting on the formation of the "group of seven" within the ruling dispensation. The formation or the revival of the group is likely to take place this week. A source said it could be even in a day or two. In response to the demand of Education Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate for funds for implementation of Cyberage, the chief minister gave his approval for the purchase of computers to 11,000 students. Three days ago, Monserrate had announced plans to form a group of seven as a pressure group in the ruling alliance. Initially it appeared that if the demand is met, he may not pursue the formation of the new group. But sources late Monday said "the plan is still on". It could be a setback to the Congress if the NCP joins the group of 7. Two years ago, the group of 7 consisted of 3 of NCP, 2 of MGP, and Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane besides Monserrate.
