Thursday, 14 January 2010 01:51 MARGAO: Goa's first and only woman FIFA referee Maria Rebello has been appointed by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the South Asian Games 2010 to be held at Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 29 to February 8. The Curtorim-born former India international received the news through the GFA and the Goan defender who led the country in 2001 for the AFC Women's Cup in Taiwan was naturally elated with joy of her appointment for the prestigious event. "I was always wondering when it will happen. It just came out of the blue and I am very happy about it. This is a huge opportunity and it has given me a chance to prove myself and move forward. I will give my best to justify my selection," an excited Maria, who has been bestowed the Jivbadada Kerkar award for her meritorious achievements in football informed 'The Navhind Times'. The tournament, which features India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and hosts Bangladesh will start on January 29 with the finals slated for February 8.
