AISI : Bishop’s letter/message (ref. Colva CD Controversy) - I It seems the message came out 12 days after the hated Colva Violence. Also seems, it needed a careful study and observations besides many hands to put it together and hence the delay. THE PARISH PRIEST OF COLVA, FR. DIOGO FERNANDES HAD TO SUFFER A GREAT DEAL BECAUSE OF THE CD TITLED ‘DOGUI BODMAS’, WE EXTEND TO HIM OUR HEARTFELTH SOLIDARITY. WE COMMEND HIS SELF-RESTRAINT AND HIS APPEAL TO HIS PARISHIONERS TO EXERCISE THE SAME, EVEN IN THE FACE OF DEFAMATION HE WAS BEING SUBJECTED TO. HE THUS BORE WITNESS TO FINE HUMAN AND CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES. Going by this, it appears that the priest is given a clean chit by the church freeing him from any allegations against him. It’s like a protection (?) from one best friend to another best friend. The CD does sing about the two friends were shool/class mates Sharing the same bench. May be the priest is innocent. The allegation about the pealing of the church bell and inciting or instigating the Parishioners to march to the CD producers house etc need to be properly investigate without malice towards none. Whatever it is, the Colva incidence of violence, by and large, termed as ‘inhuman and unchristian’. WE ALSO APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT THE PARISHIONERS OF COLVA EXTENDTED TO THEIR SHEPERD. IN THIS THEY REVEALED HOW HIGHLY THEY VALUE THEIR FAITH, THEIR SHEPHERD AND THEIR RELIGIOUS STANDARDS. ALSO TO BE UNDERSCORED ARE THE EFFORTS THEY PUT IN TO SEE THAT SUCH ATTEMPTS ARE NOT REPEATED. THIS IS THE TESTING TIME FOR THEIR FATIH AND WE WOULD LIKE TO STANDBY THEM IN THIS HOUR OF PAIN AND TRIAL. I find this whole thing contradictory with reference the contents under ‘A WORD ABOUT THE VIOLENCE…” of the same message in the next para (see the original/link) It’s like saying ‘well done people, and we stand by you’ on one hand and ‘you should not have done it that way’ on the other hand. It also sound like it is encouraging people (including other Parishioners etc) to act likewise (as Colva people did) so that no such attempts are repeated (to defame their shepherds -Priests). Also, when it says ‘..DEFENDING THEM (sheperds etc) AGAINST UNWARRANTED ATTACKS IS PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE (?) II A WORD ABOUT THE VIOLENCE THAT ERRUPTED ON THE OCCASION As said, it is like saying ‘Don’t worry about what it says here, it is just to please certain section of the society and we say it not because we wanted to but due to some pressures which we also have to address to while handling such sensitive situations. III A WORD TO ARTISTES ON THE OTHER HAND, WE ARE HUMAN: PRIESTS, MINISTERS, EVERYONE. WE ARE BOUND TO FAIL SOMETIME OR THE OTHER.. I was wondering when it says ‘everyone’ (abv) it also includes the CD producer and the artistes? Also, it is perfectly OK to sing or write or highlight the faults of Ministers ? If no, then why no one said anything about it before. LET US IN OUR PARISHES AND FAMILIES INTENSIFY OUR PRAYERS THAT ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SUFFERED IN THESE DISTURBANCES PARTICULARLY THE COLVA PARISH PRIEST MAY EXPERIENCE OUR SUPPORT AND SOLIDARITY IN FAITH I would also add or amend thus …those who have suffered in these disturbances particularly elderly parents of the CD producer and his 4 year old son etc who were in the house at the time of rampage .. When our sheperds do what they not supposed to do, They not only place their own reputation in danger but our religion too.
