FAQ w.r.t. PPS
Q: What is PPS?
A: PPS stands for People for Political Sanity.
Q: Is it a NGO; a CSO; a CI or what?
A: It is a CI [Citizen's Initiative]
Q: What is it supposed to do? Fight with the government?, File PILs in High
Court? Organize agitations/demonstrations/morchas/dharnas, what?
A: Nothing of that sort?
Q: Nothing of that sort? What do you mean? Is it going to just sit back and
do nothing?
A: Yes. Just sit back and do nothing. Only think 'political' since politics
of the day runs your life. Importantly, individual sensible citizens coming
out in the open
BOLDLY to say "I stand for PPS" and networking with others who share
the same views is the need of the hour.
Q: What is the expected outcome of this PPS?.
A: Devastating Political Tsunami.
Q: Whew? How?, Explain.
A: Those who come out in the open to say that they are PPS, they
automatically show that they are non-supportive of the corrupt and wasteful
governance that has taken
root in their beloved GOA. As more people join in, the perceived threat
to the survival of non-performing governments becomes real and these players
are likely to mend
their ways or chance losing out.
A: So they are non supportive of the corrupt and wasteful governments. Then
what? They just sit tight and do nothing?
A: Of course not. They become busy-bees look-out for a replacement, maybe
something like a third-front, an alternative, which will satisfy their
criteria of 'a people's
government.' They may even want to ask these alternatives to give
guarantees and satisfy them how, why, their fluid promises will work.
Q: If there is no alternative/s available, then what?
A: If this is the case, then they work their brains off to make one
available or simply kick themselves in the rear.
Q: Suppose it happens that there are more than one possible alternatives,
What then?
A: Invite all of them to a public PPS sponsored debates. Grill them. Compare
their strengths and weaknesses to make a qualified choice whom to support.
After having
decided, go for it LOCK STOCK AND BARREL, ADOPT IT BY SHEDDING YOUR
SENTIMENTAL BELONGINGNESS TO NON-PERFORMERS. You wouldn't be wise
if you didn't.
Q: What are you looking for in these alternatives?
A: A definitive SENSE OF PURPOSE. An Essence of Self- Sacrifice. A
declaration of its procedures on how they will perform before and after
elections. Whether they
will open all their cards on the table, many other things vital for you
to know.
Q: How will the activities of this PPS funded?
A: It is a self-financing movement, i.e. every PPS person gets involved,
every person pays as according to his/her means and/or wish. It must be
small change rather than
big amounts.
Q: Can you explain this self-financing phenomenon?
A: We must know very well that where there is money, there is greed,
mischief, bad blood and etc. We also must know that 'small money from a lot
of people makes
better sense than a lot of money from one person'. We said that PPS
is a 'sticker' based movement to start with. Stick the sticker to your 2/4
wheeler and you
have declared yourself PPS (Person for Political Sanity) supporter. To
print stickers, it costs money. Say each sticker costs (non-bulk printing)
Rs 10/-. Let anyone
print the stickers and distribute them for cost price of Rs.10/- or
better still, less than Rs.10/-. You can see that there is no profit to be
made here. The loss borne, if at
all, rhymes with the self-sacrifice needed for any movement to be
successful. Your intention is to make the movement grow and not to make
money out of it. Once
there are substantial number of people lined up for PPS, other things
could be considered. This exercise is to identify if Political Sanity is
wanted/needed or people are
happy with the present political MADNESS where there is nothing of note
to show for your hard-earned tax money. Think, Goa's roads (without
exception) should have
been paved with GOLD, so to say, with all the money that has gone into
corrupt pockets and are going.
Q: You mean to say that there is not going to be a central organization (
presidents, secretaries and treasurers) ? Who prints and distributes
stickers?
A: No central organization at all. The organization will be the people. Each
sticker owner is the proud 'mover and the shaker' of PPS.
Q: In that case there will be hundreds of people printing and distributing
stickers. And they could be selling them for more than the cost price. What
then?
Doesn't this become a 'free for all?'. Is this good?
A: Say, for example, hundred persons are printing and distributing these
stickers for various cost prices from Canacona to Pernem. Those stickers
that are available for
the lowest price will set the trend and those who want to make money
will be exposed, especially, when the sticker size is stipulated. i.e. a
sticker of 1.5" diameter
should cost around Rs. 10/, less if printed in bulk.
Q: Why should this sticker printing and distributing not be done centrally?
A: It will set a dangerous trend.... suspicion, especially with our Goan
crab mentality. And suspicion leads to back-biting and the movements go off
the rails. It has
happened with the GBA, which came very close to solving Goa's political
problems if it was not for its unfortunate 'apolitical' stance ( this has
been profusely
acknowledged by the movers and shakers of the GBA). PPS is a politically
oriented people's movement, to choose and support clean and effective system
of
governance, not to support individual candidate/s even if the
candidate/s are perceived as honest and non corrupt. An honest and
non-corrupt person in a dishonest
and corrupt system of governance will either be a 'failure' or a
'turn-coat'. Therefore, PPS movement must be a self-protective movement
which cannot fall prey to crab
mentalities or one up-man-ships, if Goans have learnt their lesson well.
When Goans have been fighting amongst themselves, somebody else has run away
with the
loot. :-))
Q: This way there will be different looking PPS stickers all around the
place. Is it justifiable?
A: Why not? Let the stickers be of multi-designs as long as they remain
identifiable as PPS. More the merrier, goes the saying.
Q: Should this movement not have a face, a mascot?
A: It is essential. But the mascot must be a super-glue. i.e. once stuck -
never comes un-stuck. That means a totally committed person of proven
integrity.
Q: Is there such a person around who can galvanize a movement such as PPS?
A: We believe there are several. But these persons should be dragged out to
wear the mask. They will not come out of their own. Those who will resist
being dragged
out will be no good for the movement if dragged out by force. It must be
like: "If the lot of you want me to come out and take charge, I shall be
privileged to hold that
charge, because, I myself want to identify myself with this movement
for a SUPER GOA."
Q: I still don't get the real intent of the PPS movement. Suppose entire Goa
is galvanized, vibrating with PPS. How does Goa's polity benefit?
A: PPS identifies persons who will contest the next assembly elections, not
as individual or independent candidates but under any one of the
short-listed 'banner/s' of a
collective system of governance, say a political party, which is best
suited to govern Goa in these traumatic times of deceit and cheating.
Because an organization or
an established political party can control its candidate/s but a
candidate who is his/her own master, it will be like flying a kite without
the string. :-))
Q: If suppose PPS supports a banner most suited for GOA and which banner has
come out of the fire-test, intact, and suppose under this banner all 40
candidates are fielded. Tell me how do you see the day of the
declaration of the elections result?
A: Even a blind person will be able to to give you the answer. Land-slide
victory or at least a clear majority. Because, this will be the first time
that the people, the voters
have galvanized themselves to think more of themselves rather than the
good of the contesting candidates. The euphoria before the election will be
unimaginable. And
the celebrations after the elections will be deafening the whole
world........ that, at last, GOA has done it.
