Kapil Dev urges students to be ambitious

Doha: India’s legendary cricketer Kapil Dev has urged school students
to be ambitious and focused as they chart out their future goals.

Passion, dream and personality development are three key things which
bring success, Kapil Dev said while speaking at the Republic Day
celebrations at the DPS-Modern Indian School here yesterday.

“Try to have a dream and a passion for it. People who come to this
world without a dream will not achieve anything. It’s important to
become something in life,” said the 51-year-old.
“Education is absolutely important, as a sportsmen’s life lasts for
just 10 to 20 years. But, education remains with you till you die.
Numbers and grades are not so important, but the personality and
character, are keys to your future.”
Kapil Dev also recalled his days at school.
“Although I played for the country, I feel school days were the most
beautiful days spend of my life. No pressure and without any
expectations, go and enjoy myself. I wasn’t good at studies.
Definitely, I wasn’t good,” he said.
But his subject was different, he said.
“My subject was cricket and I came out with distinction. I had a
passion, despite 100 reminders of you must do something in your
education from my parents, I could not do anything. I could not
fulfill my parents’ dreams, but I fulfilled my dream and that’s what I
would like to tell the parents. Do not try to push your children what
you want them to become and never see what they want to achieve. Find
a dream in your child. Don’t try to fufill your dream in them. Don’t
look for your dream in them but look for their dreams,” he said while
urging the parents not to push their children.
The cricket all-rounder who played for India from 1978 to 1994 advised
the student to make the most of their school days.
“School days are the important days of you r life. If you make up your
mind, what you want to do, then no one can stop you, that is all human
race is about. We are survivors and we can achieve what we want,” he
said
He urged the parents and teachers to support the child dreams, but
also cautioned the children not to take for granted the advice of the
parents and the teachers.
“Always listen to your teachers and parents they will not give wrong
guidance. A good student is one who is able to sit across the table
and discuss his viewpoints with his parents and teachers, reasoning
what they want to do in life,” said the Haryana Hurricane
He also advised the students to respect their teachers.
M R Qureshi, Second Secretary-Embassy of India who was the Chief Guest
also spoke besides DPS-MIS President Hassan Chogule.

followed by the singing of the National Anthem, floral presentations,
