We have headlines screaming "Rapes on the rise in Goa". The electronic media
is not far behind. The Russian Government almost put out a travel advisory.
. What I am really puzzled about is the free use of the word 'rape' in media
and law enforcement circles.

According to Wikipedia, In criminal law, *rape* is an assault by a person
involving sexual intercourse with another person without that person's
consent.

Sometime ago, a young man who sent lewd, prurient messages to a young lady
was accused of raping the girl who was a minor with his cell phone. Where
sexual assault enters the picture here is beyond me.

In the instant case of the Russian girl who was allegedly raped by a Man.
But can this incident really be classified as rape in view of the mother's
own statement? According to Vikram Verna "There was penetration. The girl
has suffered internal injuries. It amounts to rape," I have no expertise in
Medico-Legal affairs. Could someone enlighten me?
