DR.G.J.S. ABRAHAM, EX. DEAN OF GMC EXPIRES
Panaji, February 2, 2010 Dr. G. J. S. Abraham, Ex-Dean, who served the Goa Medical College as the Dean for the longest period expired today in the early morning hours at Bangalore. He had undergone Bypass surgery five days back in a reputed hospital in Bangalore. Born on 2nd July 1931, he joined Goa Medical College in the year 1967 as a Prof. of Pharmacology and served the Institution in various capacities. He was the Dean of Goa Medical College from 30/3/1981 till his retirement on 1/7/1990, beside for a brief period in 1977. Dr. Abraham has been a teacher to a lot of Medical students since second batch onwards, many of whom are holding prestigious positions in the field of Medicine. He was an excellent teacher, gifted Research worker and well known for the Administrative and Management Skills. Though, a strict disciplinarian, he was kind hearted and very helpful in times of need to his students and employees, having personal rapport with each one of them. Dr. Abraham was awarded the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy Award for his services in the field of Medical education. He was known in all nooks and corners of Goa and was highly respected by all sections of the society. He is survived by his wife Dr. Marjorie Abraham, who herself retired as the Prof. of Physiology, in the Institution and sons Dr. Theodar, Dr.Jaison and Mr. Fransisco along-with daughter-in-laws and grandchildren. His passing away leaves a void which will be very difficult to fill. The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 4th at the Methodist Church in Campal, Panjim, followed by interment at the St. Inez cemetery.
