Prayer at the opening of Senate of Kansas.
You would like to read this Prayer that was made in Kansas at the inaugural
session of “Kansas House of Representatives”
When Rev. Joe Wright was requested to say an opening prayer in The Senate of
Kansas , everyone expected an ordinary prayer, but this is what all heard:
“Lord, we have come before you today, to ask You for forgiveness, to ask You
for guidance. We know in Your own words You have said ” Cursed are those who
call “good” for what is “bad”, and this is exactly what we have done.
We have changed our values lost and have our spiritual equilibrium.
We have exploited the people and have called it ‘luck’.
We have rewarded our laziness and labelled it as ‘Social Help’.
We have murdered our unborn children and have called it ‘Free school of
thought’.
We have abated the condemned and have called it ‘Justice’.
We have been negligent in disciplining our children and have called it
‘development of self esteem’.
We have abused our power and have called it ‘Politics’.
We have coveted our neighbour’s properties and this we have called ‘being
ambitious’.
We have polluted our radio and television transmissions with vulgarity and
pornography and have called it ‘freedom of expression’.
We have ridiculed years of set-up values by our ancestors and this we have
called ‘obsolete and past’.
O GOD! Look deep into our hearts; purify us, and free us from our sins.
Amen.”
The reaction was immediate.
One Parliamentarian left the hall during the prayer. Three others criticised
the prayer by the priest as “A message of intolerance”
During the following six weeks, the Church, “Central Catholic Church”, under
which the Parish priest Rev. Fr. Wright worked received 5,000 telephone calls,
of which only 47 were in disfavour.
The Church now receives petitions from all round the world, from India, Africa,
Asia, that the parish priest Rev. Wright pray for them.
The commentator Paul Harvey broadcasted this prayer in his radio program “The
rest of the Story”, and received much accolades for this transmission than for
any other.
With God’s help, we would like this prayer to pour on us and our nation, and
give birth in our hearts the wish to make our Nation under God’s gaze.
If possible send this prayer to all your friends so that in 30 days the whole
world could have read.
If we do not value in being firm in our convictions, then we will fall before
any conflict or foe.
