Nicknames abound all over Goa and both individuals and residences have the
privilege of being 'honoured' with them. Here are a few (individuals):
Kudd'dem Fulu (she was blind in one eye), Kankatro Jose (whose one ear had a
cut), Koddkoddo Bostianv, Govo vaddo Pedro ( who suffered from goitre), Rebek
Goes ( a choirmaster), Kampinn Konsulem, etc. etc. And, here are some
nicknames of houses: Girgireager, Demankarager, Borboreager, Pipirmitager,
Novea gharant ( the house that was the first to have Mangalore tiles), Harxea
gharant - the house of the late Bishop Altino Ribeiro - (probably because the
house had large glass windows). I even know of two priests with nicknames: Pe.
Dentto (probably because of his height) and Pe. Dhobo (I know not for what!).
Finally, I was told by one Moiddekar that the people originating from his ward
(I think, Pirazonna) are known as VHODDLE MOIDDEKAR!
Incidentally, I understand the houses in Saligao, Bardez, have the highest
number of nicknames.

Good luck!
