Talking about freedom fighters, I recollect my father narrating to us stories of people who were sent to prison for fighting for freedom among whom was Prof James Fernandes (formerly St Xavier's College Mapuca) from my village in Assonora. I believe that not only did he not claim any benefits or pension but completed his studies on his release and earned his living very honourably. Let us not forget such people who made a tremendous sacrifice.
