Dear Antonio,
Bernardo's obsessions apart, there is a good amount of literature, that
suggests that caste is not part of Hindu dharma, but is a part of the
subcontinents system of hierarchy, linked to society, rather than religion.
You might want to read the VERY interesting introduction written by Rowena
Robinson to the book *Christians of India* (Sage publications, 2003).
Or works by David Mosse, who has studied the Tamil Christians and their
observance of caste.
Finally, it is not just brahmins who are stuck up on caste, its the Chardos
(as a 'high' ranking caste group) and other caste groups as well.
regards
J
