Major General (ret) Vinod Saigal at ‘Global Terrorism and Global
Co-operation’ at the International Centre, said “It is not the
terrorists who are destroying the country, but our political class, and
it is politics that is overriding national security. If this blast from

MG Vinod highlighted the failure to curb terrorism as a direct result of
India’s criminalization of politics rather than intelligence failure, he
also stressed on the fact that 153 of our MP’s have criminal
backgrounds, some even with heinous crimes and they are the law makers,
MG Vinod further stated that The ratio in some state legislators is
almost 50 per cent. There are even some ministers who are having
suspected links with the ISI. Vote bank politics is another factor that
hampers action against criminals and terrorists, all this coming for the
mouth of a senior and a respected Army Officer.
How many of our MLA’s in Goa have criminal backgrounds and suspected
links to the underworld, the problem is everyone knows but we do nothing
? Oh I am sorry, sitting in Toledo I shouldn’t be telling RG’s what to
do. My sincere apologies sir, but none the less, I have to regrettably
say that when it comes to electing good, able and clean candidates, we
Goans fall way way short.
I would have loved to record the reaction of our politicos present at
the function where MG Vinod fired the salvo at our inapt and corrupt
politicians, but more than that, I feel ashamed of myself that we prefer
criminals to run our states as well as our Nation. I say Indian
democracy Jai Ho and Viva to Goa’s criminal raj !
