HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, MARCH 8 Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco has landed in trouble in the Colva land filling case, with the Colva police on Monday registering a FIR against the minister under the Town and Country Planning Act. Colva police said a case under section 17-A of the Town and Country Planning Act stands registered against the tourism minister in connection with the land filling case. The action from the Colva police comes against the backdrop of a report received from the Town and Country Planning office, Margao on Monday. Sources in the know informed that the report from the TCP has asked the police to initiate appropriate action against the tourism minister under the TCP Act. The TCP had granted seven days time to the tourism minister to submit conversion sanad, if any, to the office as inspection of the site at Colva by the officials revealed that the land filing activity was going on without permission. In the notice served on the tourism minister, Town Planner Rajesh J Naik had asked the former to submit within seven days copies of any NOCs, if any obtained from the office of the chief town planner since filling of any low lying land requires an NOC under section 17-A of the TCP Act. During site inspection, TCP officials found that an area admeasuring approximately 1350 sq meters and having a depth varying from 85 cms to 120 cms was being filled in Colva village. The town planner had further directed the minister to stop filling of the low lying land. Since the seven-day period expired on Friday and with no reply coming from the tourism minister, the town planner on Monday dashed off a letter to the Colva police to initiate appropriate action against Mickky under section 17-A of the TCP Act. Incidentally, the land filling matter would come up in the High Court later this week, wherein the tourism minister and other officials have been asked to appear. This follows a petition filed in the High Court by the Colva Civic and Consumer Forum alleging that the authorities have failed to act over the complaint lodged by the Forum vis-à-vis the land filling activity. -- Please post your comments on my Blog: http://goanidentity.blogspot.com/ Please also see below: 1.
