Politicians Declare War On Western Ghats http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Second-Nature/entry/creeks-and-rivers-u p-for
The above article is a classic example of the pseudo political objectives of our pathetic politicians, it does look like the Western Ghats have become a brothel for rave parties for politicians on either sides of the border. "Make hay while the sun shines" seems to be the banner derisively displayed on either side of the Ghats, like the Hollywood one in the USA. On one side of the border, one set of politicians along with their mining friends and financers, are busy creating vast craters gobbling hills and mountains causing extensive and irreparable damage to our ecology and our environment, degenerating our vegetation, our water bodies, our fertile fields as well as threatening human and wild life, uncontrolled silt has been flowing freely onto our riverbeds and even dams, threatening the natural flow of water, as water levels keep on rising by the year. Open cast and illegal mining thrives, while the poor peasants living in and around the Western Ghats have become victims of the greed and gluttony of our politicians and the mining friends and financers. On the other side of the border, the Bankot Creek, which is attached to Western Ghats, has it's own rich contribution to the Western Ghats, has been eyed by the politicians for it's rich sand-beds and are busy denuding the riverbed, causing instability to the river and it's banks on either side, which could have a very damaging effect on life down river, they are also playing havoc with water life and polluting the river to no ends. More than twenty mechanised sand dredgers, belonging to politicians and their cohorts working in broad daylight along a short span of the river and the authorities seem to be blind and deaf to this gross environmental violations. Even though the Western Ghats have been identified as one of the world's ten most bio-diversity hotspots, which hosts a huge variety of plant and animal species, including the endangered ones, our authorities have failed to protect this enormous vault of treasure. On both sides of the boarder the authorities have been bought lock, stock and barrel by the mining Barons and their political entities involved in the environmental degradation of the Western Ghats. At the rate at which the environmental norms are flaunted and atrocities are being committed, it will eventually obliterate the entire Western Ghats and not so far, in the near future, the Western Ghats will just be a memory of it's glorious past and a resounding proof of man's abject greed. Be assured man will ultimately have to pay a very heavy price for his greed, his espoused twisted logic, skewed perspectives and above all for his very callous attitude towards nature.
