The common man walks in a government hospital and comes out on a stretcher --
dead meat.
When it comes to private hospital's it is another story. You can be very sure
that in private hospitals in the state particularly in Panjim Personal Interest
takes the cake. Ironically the personal interest is not in the patient. It is
entirely about the hospital and the doctors visiting the hospital.
Manipal Hospital on the Donapaula plateau is a case in point. The kin of the
patient do not get a fair hearing. My mother-in-law's NHL case was properly
explained only after a lot of stubborn insistence.
What are the implications of avoiding operation. Death in six months.
True, Doctor's have to be objective and patients and their kin have to face the
reality. But doesn't the human touch precede the healing touch.
Fact is that a hospital is a big business.
Any way operation done. Chemo done. Time for discharge.
What we get is just a bill informing us the consolidated amount.
We ask for detailed proper bills of medicines, tests, operation charges,
anaesthetist, hospital charges, nursing charges etc. We can't give you that.
The women folk shell out the money, take the patient and the discharge summary
and walk away. Some days later I am told the printer is down for the last one
month.
When will these money minting machines be ever answerable to anybody.
