After several attempts to block legal proceedings, finally things seem to be
moving ahead
as Modi appeared before SIT today.
The Gujarat administration refused to admit an FIR against Modi in 2006 in the
Gulbarga
Massacre case. There are allegations against Modi that he held a meeting of top
officials
on the day of the post-Godhra riots asking police officers to go slow on
rioters. That the
slain MP Jaffri called Modi, and Modi instead of giving him protection abused
him.
That Modi asked some of his ministers to sit in the police control room and
instruct
the cops to go slow on rioters.
On a petition by the widow of slain MP Jaffri,
finally, the Supreme court had to intervene and ask SIT to investigate Modi's
role. Still
no FIR has been filed against Modi.
It is time FIR is admitted, and Modi sent to where he belongs --- namely jail.
Hats off to the activists such as Teesta Setalvad, without whose effort even
this
day would not have been possible. Still, there is a long way to go.
