The Goa Government’s decision to freeze all new mining proposals has come very late. It is in connivance with the administration that the authorities have turned a blind eye to the rampant illegal mining in Goa, especially over the last five years. Goa’s unparalleled environmental and ecological damage has occurred during the current Digambar Kamat’s three year regime and the preceding two years of Pratapsingh Rane’s rule.
How does the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat justify the arbitrary conversions granted to facilitate selective Mega construction projects while the Regional plan is yet to be finalized? Chances are that we may not see a Regional plan even by 2021, before Goa’s forest land, hills and fields are all converted into concrete jungles. If there was a punishment for the destroyer of Goa it would unanimously be shared by Digambar Kamat and Pratapsingh Rane. One fails to understand how Digambar Kamat has the audacity of seeking God’s blessings at every religious shrine possible. May be he has been seeking forgiveness. God may, but the people of Goa and posterity in particular will never forgive Digambar Kamat and Pratapsingh Rane for destroying what was once India’s most beautiful state.
