St. Xavier’s College, XIM, XIC Mumbai ALUMNI/AE LUNCH IN NYC on 04/18

Dear Alumni/ae,
This is perhaps our last communication on the Alumni Lunch in New York City on the 18th of April 2010, at the UTSAV RESTAURANT, located at 1185 Avenue of Americas, 46thst, between 6th and 7th avenues, New York, NY 10036, Tel # 212-575-2525. It will be from 11.30 am to 3.00 pm. There is discounted parking for five hours available at ICON PARK at 47thst. between 6th and 7th avenues with validated parking ticket.

You will recall our email telling you that Vice Principal, Dr. Ms. Vivien Amonkar and I are on our way to Mexico for an International Meeting of Administrators of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. We have arranged to stop over in New York and we invite all alumni from the U.S. and Canada and your spouses, to meet with the present leadership of the College and to network with other Xavierites at this lunch.

We have received positive responses from about a hundred persons, and we have booked the major part of the restaurant. We suggest a contribution of $30 per person to defray the organisational expenses including lunch. Please confirm your participation through a Cheque, in her name, mailed to reach by Saturday 10th April, to: Amita Mehta, 303 E 57th St. Apt 33E, New York, NY 10022 [email protected] Ms. Amita is an alumna who is looking after the booking.

Those who have not confirmed with us may also please do so on the email addresses given below or in NY to Arun Aguiar [email protected] or Olav Athayde [email protected]

St. Xavier’s College is on the verge of a new beginning, with the University about to grant us Academic Autonomy to design our own courses, frame our syllabii and have our own evaluation, with the University continuing to award the Degrees. We will be the first such College in Mumbai. At this exciting time, we welcome the involvement of alumni, with your rich international experience, to share with us what you would like to see at St. Xavier's.

On the occasion of our 140th year in 2009, we have published a Coffee Table Book on St. Xavier’s College. We could make a copy of the book available to you in New York for $70 (avoiding Courier charges). We would appreciate it if you could reserve a copy as soon as possible by writing to [email protected] or to [email protected] Payment for this would need to be in cash at the venue.

Some of you have enquired about contributions to the College and whether U.S. tax exemption would be possible. For this, cheques could be made out to: “The Gupta Foundation”, Philadelphia, run by an alumnus in the U.S., or for amounts above $250, to “Society of Jesus Worldwide” based in Chicago. Either of these organisations will make the donor eligible for tax exemptions in the U.S. and the amount will be transferred to St. Xavier’s College Mumbai.

Hoping to see you in New York and requesting that you spread the word to other alumni you are in contact with,
Warm regards,
 Fr. Frazer sj.
