To commemorate the 118 anniversary of ' Tiatr Day " 17th April, 1892 the Tiatr
Academy of Goa (TAG) has organised a day long get-together of all tiatr lovers
on 17th April, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 4.00 p.m (lunch inclusive RSVP: +91 832
2230738-39 [email protected] on or before 13/04/2010)at their newly
acquired premises Conference Hall at A-S-4, 2nd flr, Campal Trade Centre, Upp.
Kala Akademy, Campal Panaji Goa .
On this auspices ocassion a book "WHEN THE CURTAIN RISES " a well researched
treatise on the nitty gritty of tiatr by Prof Rafael Fernandes of the Goa
University will be released. This will be followed by a short talk by Prof.
Rafael Fernandes on the contents of his book for about 30 minutes. The detailed
itinery is not available yet.
It may be recalled that on this day the first tiatr "Italian Bhurgo" was staged
by the inovator of " Tiatr " by a native of Assagao Costancio Lucasinho Ribeiro
(born 2.1.1863) at the Alfred Theatre Mumbai (then Bombay)

freely emailed to anyone on request, for those desirous.
It is hoped that the last vestige of Goan culture "tiatr" a self sustaining
performing art which has excellent rapport with the audience even in this
informative era will receive the attention it deserves from Goans world wide.
It is the dedication and sacrifices of the triumvurate of "tiatr" viz Lucacinho
Ribeiro, (Assagao) Joao Agostinho Fernandes and his wife Maria Regina Fernandes
(Modsai Margao ) that has provided a strong edifice to the success of tiatr
even till this day.
