Making a strong case for special status for Goa, the pop star cautioned that politicians would never allow special status to be bestowed on the State. “If there is special status, how will the politicians mint crores of rupees by selling land to the builders in Delhi and the mafia from Russia?. Secondly, the special status will not come because Goans are not united. If there is an agitation in support of special status, the politicians would divide the people”, he asserted. Remo made a special comment by mentioning that politicians are quick to uphold the rights of citizens to settle anywhere in India. “Have you noticed that every politician would immediately uphold the right of citizens to settle anywhere? They are not bothered about other rights of citizens such as clean roads, non-corrupt Government, clean beds in the hospital, clean classrooms et al”, he said. Saying that the politicians have built up vote banks all over Goa, Remo said the people are still under the illusion that they would vote this guy or that guy to power. Remo was in the city here on Wednesday evening to brief the media on his live concert at the Rajendra Prasad Stadium on April 30 organised by 9 Entertainments. Incidentally, Remo will be performing in South Goa for the first time after a gap of more than two decades. When newsmen asked Remo to outline one change which can make a difference to Goa, the pop star said “there is one change which can make a difference, that is to put all the politicians and Opposition together in a boat and sink them in the middle of the Arabian sea. Unfortunately, that would pollute the sea”. He said the people still believed there is someone called “Mr Clean” who can save the State. “We were naive enough to believe that there is this Mr Clean, but all of them have been involved in some corrupt practices or the other. Even in case, there is some Mr Clean, he too is guilty as he has not exposed others and is part of the system”, he asserted. Remo lamented that Goans too should be blamed for the state of affairs as they get easily divided on communal and linguistic lines. “There are divisions amongst Hindus and Christians, people who speak Marathi and Konkani. Now people are fighting over the script of our language. We get divided so easily”, he said. Saying that South Goa is very close to his heart, Remo said South Goa today is the most preserved part of Goa. “I wish I was from South Goa. Here, the people are united and have stood up and has managed to fight against bad development. I am happy to finally perform in South Goa”, he added. Asked to comment on the changing face of music in the country, Remo said the whole country has become Bollywood centric. “All shows today are based on Bollywood. It appears the country has gone bankrupt that we cannot give anything to our children, except Bollywood”, he added. Remo said he is presently pre-occupied with the task of producing music for a Goan Konkani film produced by Rajendra Talak and a Bollywood film. -- Please post your comments on my Blog: http://goanidentity.blogspot.com/ Please also see below: 1.
