Thanks, Selma, for resurrecting the names of these gallant Goans, Valentine and Caetano from the [mists of obscurity]. Perhaps there are similar 'untold' instances of bravery by our Goans which lie buried in family archives. While history records the part played by the White Man in opening Africa, we can all take pride in the fact that none of this would have been possible without the sacrifices made by individuals like Valentine and Caetano and many other unsung heroes.
