Economic Times reported on 10th May that HIV cases have increased significantly in areas where migrant truck drivers are used to transport iron ore. An official of Steel Authority of India said that a large number of truck drivers from Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Karnataka (who may be affected by HIV?), indulge in unsafe sex (with locals?). This is another hazard of mining and migrants. Recently a number of Naxalites were arrested in Goa. All migrant drivers need to be checked not only for Naxalite history but also for health history.
