Reading Goan Voice UK, I was sad to know about the death of Francis Xavier
D'Souza. I met him many a time, including once in Montreal. I know he played a
big role, particularly in framing the constitution of the National Association
of Canadians with Origins in India (NACOI). He provided me with lot of
information on the organisation.
As with many Indian associations, NACOI was divided and there were clashes
between two groups, with one headed by Sikhs and the other by Indians of other
communities. NACOI ultimately passed into hands of the Sikhs. However, the
original NACOI also functioned as it did not recognize the victory of the new
committee of Sikhs. Don't know if both NACOI are still surviving.
RIP, FX.
