Today, 17 May, 2010, seems to be a day of many surprises.
For one, our CM boldly says he does not need votes from Goans. Perhaps he
can win the seat on the strength of the migrant cultivated vote-bank.
And ladies get dragged with impunity and almost beaten in the august
precincts of the Goa Vidhan Sabha.
But this is not the surprise that I am talking about. At Verna's Blue Berry
meeting venue, I met a guy known to me, after a very long time. And as we
got talking about things, we lapsed into the the idle talk of sex scams,
land scams, secularism and communalism etc. And he asked me if I have been
to Diwar. "Ofcourse", I said. "Diwar, Malar, St. Matias is all I know plus I
know about the Bonderam festivals". "Why are you asking?" I asked.
"Do you know that there is an island called 'Vaxim' admeasuring
approximately 4 lac square meters at Diwar?" he asked. "No" I said. "Never
heard of it"
"Well", he said. "It belonged to Santa Monica estates controlled by the
Church of Goa". "And just like the Church has sold out other properties kept
in its custoldy, i.e Canon Souto Maior property in Caranzalem, or, Santa
Monica property at Corlim, Goa leased out to the corrupter and master
polluter Sinzenta, Vaxim island has been sold by the Church for peanust [37
lacs] some 4-5 years ago to Vijay Mallya" he said. "And the go between agent
to sell this off to Mallya was Architect Mahendra Gaonekar" he said. When I
looked surprised, he added, "that is not all". "the guy who signed the sale
deed is your fellow Moidekar"
"Oh My!" I said. Only if I knew, I could have been the owner of an entire
island, far away from the hustle and bustle of every day dirty and dry
life" And perhaps I could have set up the headquarters of PPS there on this
island. What a pity" I said.
