It is good that the Goa Government has decided to include some legal experts on the proposed committee to suggest amendments to the Town and Country Planning Act. It would however be very improper to include on this committee advocates who have represented the interests of land sharks including the promoters of controversial mega projects and SEZ’s. Such legal experts on the Committee should make full disclosure if they have represented or continue to represent builders, real-estate developers, SEZ promoters, etc.
The Government should instead seek the guidance of some distinguished former Advocate Generals and some designated senior advocates. The assistance of some retired District and High Court Judges could also be sought. The input of some senior professors of our two law colleges may also come handy. It is high time our Governor Dr. S.S.Sidhu and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat realize that many problems our State is currently is plagued with including the RP 2021 fiasco could be resolved once Goa get’s an honest, upright and competent Advocate General.
