Dear FN,
It is anomalous in Goa to say that you admire someone's work and their
involvement in local issues. That should take place only post-humously. During
their lifetime, it is in keeping with the long-established traditions of Goa
to pillory people as mercilessly as possibly.

I too like Dean D'Cruz. I don't know him but I know people who know him. People
whose opinions I trust and value. It is utterly wrong to accuse this man in
public of some corrupt connivance in illegalities without a shred of
evidence. It is wrong and immoral. And to think that other Goans stand by and
justify this sort of behaviour is to me the most puzzling thing of all.

Little wonder then, that people of Dean D'Cruz's standing rarely venture out
into civil life. Why should they when they are treated so badly, jeered at and
publicly tried on internet forums for spurious crimes of omission and
commission?

I wonder why we think any tangible change will come to Goa, when we don't show
a shred of maturity in our thoughts and actions. Collectively we are the
emotional equivalents of children, very young, spoilt, bratty children. Until
that changes, you can lead all the movements you like but change will not come
to Goa. We will keep electing the dregs of society to represent us because our
choice of collective political representation is actually a manifestation of
our collective maturity.

Best,
Selma
