Well said Senor Martins. The overseas Goichis are in for the ride....the GoaNet gives them nostalgia and a connection with their roots (they have to justify their boring, nic-knack filled ordinary lives). And some of them have a drink or two and go 'posting'....
On the other hand, one feels the Goichis in Goa are almost forgotten themselves. They are not angry like the old days. There is so much said on the present state of rot and there seems to be no reaction from the Goichis in Goa. Most of them will tell you they are keen to get their 'Purtugues' passaport after bribing the c*nsulate employees (yes, I know what I am talking about). In short, they aren't angry at the state of affairs, or at least nor angry enough that they would react. I think it time we went back to the old days, where we forced our identify.The mini post-election riots of 1971, the 1983 'Goa for Goans' clean up, the Concani agitation. These were moments we flexed our muscles, raised our voices. Now there seems to be no peg. No one wants to throw stones. One should have been angry for a variety of reasons: the Gandi statue in Old Goa (what is this idiot who means nothing to us Goans doing there, the seat of the Catholic church...), the Tilak Maidan (we have our own sporting heroes, football stars and who the bleep is this buffoon Tilak to Goan sports), Nehru stadium (GWD, that should be named after Benao)....and so on. I feel these are subtle ways we lost our identify- this was a scheme. And now its a free fall....beyond control. There are the idle and the useless running around trying to save Goa. Bah. Piece of advice: one has to be angry, red hot angry to get some action going. Trust my amigo Chu-chill's 'watchman' statement is going to galvanize the villages. He should have been driven out of Goa for saying this. The church.........never mind the church. I hear they are worried sleep-less (the Bishup is) trying to figure out how to keep his flock these days. PS. if someone has a truck, I have the rope...lets get working on the Old Goa statue.............
