Locals including my mother used to wait until the last day of the fair i.e. the 7th day where most items were sold at bargain price including the ‘Sole’. But this trend didn’t last for long. As the years go by, the items particularly the ‘sole’ were traded at the highest price tag on the last day. This item even now is the most expensive amongst all the salt fish. This is used to make ‘Para’ or ‘Paro’ where the cut pieces of ‘sole’ pickled in a masala/vinegar paste for weeks before it is shallow fried. When one household fry ‘para’ the strong smell would spread up to 500 meters radius. Other common item used for ‘para’ is ‘bangdde’ (dry mackerel). On this ‘purmentachen fest’ usually late May, half the times it used to rain any time during the 7 day feast fair, sometimes continuosly. All ‘Moder’ or furniture used to lined up opp Session Court ( now the entire road leading to Pai Tiatrist Hall). The fields towards Mungul/Colva Road were occupied by live cattle sale *Gorvam" and roads with ‘rogdde’ grinding stones and off course ‘goddgoddo’ tables Now, a day, any feast fair, over 70% of the fair stalls are of garments, linen, plastic wares, Shoes etc. mostly run by migrants Here are some of the traditional handpicked items brought to you from the 4th day of the fair 26/5/10.
